👉 Simile :- Like, As

Example :

(1) As strong as an ox, Quite like a mouse.
(2) He looks like a fish out of water.
(3) Her eyes shone like diamonds.
(4) She slept like a log.
(5) The airplane soared like an eagle.


👉 Metaphor :- Quite similar to simile but no words like "like, as" are used.

Example : 

(1) Alex is a chicken.
(2) Love is battlefield.
(3) The classroom was a zoo.
(4) He is a night owl.
(5) The kids were monkeys on the jungle gym.


Metaphor: All the world's a stage.
Simile: All the world is like a stage.


Metaphor: My heart is a lonely hunter.
Simile: My heart is like a lonely hunter.


Metaphor: She was a wildfire of rage.
Simile: In her rage, she was as deadly as a wildfire.


👉 Personification :- Represent a non-human entity as human.

Example : 

(1) Time ran away from him.
(2) The car died in the middle of the road.
(3) Rita heard the last piece of pie calling her name.
(4) Lightning danced across the sky.
(5) The car complained as the key was roughly turned in its ignition.


👉 Hyperbole :- अतिश्योक्ति

Example :

(1) My dad will kill me when he comes home.
(2) Your skin is softer than silk.
(3) This bag weighs a ton.
(4) Your brain is the size of a pea.
(5) I’m so hungry I could eat a horse.
(6) I’ve read this book a hundred times.


👉 Onomatopoeia :- Words or phrases indicate sounds


Machine noises—honk, beep, vroom, clang, zap, boing
Animal names—cuckoo, whip-poor-will, whooping crane, chickadee
Impact sounds—boom, crash, whack, thump, bang
Sounds of the voice—shush, giggle, growl, whine, murmur, blurt, whisper, hiss
Nature sounds—splash, drip, spray, whoosh, buzz, rustle


Example : 

(1) The bees buzzed around in the garden.
(2) The bird’s chirp filled the empty night air.
(3) The wounded soldier groaned.
(4) The wolves howled at the moon.
(5) That cat will keep meowing until you pet it.
(6) Time just keeps on ticking.
(7) The bullet whizzed by his ear.
